#atozchallenge | T is for Trivia and Fun Maine Facts

There are many amazing things about Maine and for today’s A-Z Blogging Challenge,  I wanted to highlight a couple interesting trivia facts about the state.

      1. We rule when it comes to craft beer. Even without all the other wonderful reasons to live here, I could have convinced my husband to move to Maine on this fact alone. Portland, Maine is the best city in the country for beer lovers. According to SmartAsset and their article “The Best Cities for Beer Drinkers” by Nick Wallace, Portland, Maine has the highest number of microbrewies per capita. And, if this accolade wasn’t enough, we were just named the top craft beer city in the world by the travel site Matador Network! It’s no surprise that we scored so high on this one. Visiting tasting rooms is a regular activity for us.
      2. We are the opposite of landlocked. Maine has more shoreline than California. We do have quite the craggy coastline and it adds up quick. According to InfoPlease, Maine has 3,478 miles to California’s 3,427 miles. Much of our shore is rocky, but all of it is stunningly beautiful.
      3. We grow our own superfood. Maine is the largest producer of wild blueberries in the world, although 99% of the crop is frozen and used as a food ingredient so when they’re fresh you better act fast and enjoy them.       4. We are covered in trees. Not only does Maine have the highest percentage of forest of any state at 90%, but we have more trees now than we did 100 years ago according to the FAQs on Forest for Maine’s Future website.
      5. We love our cats and even have our own breed. Maine is the number one state for cat lovers according to this  Estately Blog Post by Ryan Nickuum, That’s no surprise since we even have our own state cat the Maine Coon.Check out my Instagram Site if you want proof on this last fact.     Fun post!

    I am from the other side of the world, but my home state is also the opposite of landlocked! In fact, we have every sort of tropical terrain, from beaches to the Himalaya mountains. The only thing that’s missing is a desert.

    OOOH! Maine blueberries and Maine Coon cats! ❤ I didn't know Maine had more coastline than California, but it makes sense with all the inlets and wiggly coastline. Albuquerque is pretty good with craft beer, but I'd love to try Maine's!

    I’m visiting from the A to Z Challenge.
    Maine sounds quite unique…growing its own superfood (very smart) and having its own breed of cat. Wow. Sounds like heaven for cats and cat-lovers!
    90% of the state covered in trees? How did you people get that right? Have all the eco-conscious citizens migrated to Maine? Seems like it…
    I’m the opposite end of the globe, and I reside on the east coast about 5 minutes from the sea.

    When I think of Maine’s coast, I think of the opening of the old soap opera “Dark Shadows.” Am I envisioning it correctly?
    Blueberries? Check. Cats? Check. Forests? Check. I don’t drink beer, but I’m hoping I can find plenty of Diet Coke there 🙂

    A couple of years ago, my daughter did a summer internship at the Lighthouse in Lubec. I spent a couple of weeks there, too, and I loved it. Maine is a wonderful and surprisingly large place. Thanks for sharing some trivia about it. I hope to find my way back there, soon.
