My daughter recently went through a microwaveable meal in a mug phase. Trust me, it’s a thing. You can google it. My daughter enjoyed finding and pinning mug meal recipes on Pinterest and then testing them out in our microwave. She was doing pizza in a mug fairly consistently for a few weeks. It was intriguing but not really something I thought about again once the phase receded… until Christmas.

As you can probably tell from earlier posts, our Christmas stockings are filled with lots of food treats. This year my husband surprised me with a locally made treat from Jarva Cakes. This woman run business is made up of a mother and her two daughters and was launched about four years ago. They create single serving treats that are so easy to make and instantly cure any sweet cravings you might be having. It’s a prepackaged mug meal.

Everything you need to make a cake in the microwave comes premeasured and packaged in a microwavable cupcake size container. All you need to do is add water, stir, cook and enjoy. Each cake has a molten center after they are cooked. While they are intended for the microwave, they do have instructions on their website for cooking in a regular oven too.

My husband gifted me with their dark velvet chocolate flavor which was delicious. They have other flavor options available as well including:

    Completely unrelated – I started a book about Maine, and immediately thought of you (it’s actually the second book involving Maine I’ve read lately – though the first “book” was actually a series of books where the main character was originally from Maine, so I guess I’ve actually read four books involving Maine in the last month or so!).

        All were good. The series was science fiction – the Expeditionary Force series. Most of it doesn’t take place in Maine, but it does get started there (and it’s where the main character is from). The one I just finished was “The Stranger in the Woods” – it was about a man who just disappeared into the woods and lived there for about 25 years.

        As for Wisconsin books, I was just looking at a map detailing the most famous book that takes place in any given state. The one they had for Wisconsin was “Little House in the Big Woods.” So, a classic, but probably not something to add to the reading list.

        For more contemporary books, I’d go with pretty much anything by Michael Perry, like “Truck” or “Population 485.”

        I read them with my girls too more recently and while they enjoyed them it wasn’t the same. We did have a pioneer day where we used kerosene lamps, “churned” our own butter and tried some recipes from the Little House books. That was a lot of fun.

    Wow that sounds really good and so easy! Very cool and no risk of eating the whole cake (well, you would, of course, eat the whole cake but since it is a single serving cake… I am sure you get what I am trying to saying).

    I have heard of mug meals, but never tried it. I may need to – it sounds very low maintenance 🙂 And perhaps something I could show my daughter to do as well. As for these, they look amazing!
