Another weekend is on the horizon and with summer in full swing there are lots of activities to choose from including some fun festivals. A few of the festivals listed below started earlier this week but all run through at least Saturday.

1. Maine Lobster Festival. Rockland, Maine. August 2 – 6, 2017. It’s been a few years since I made it up to this festival but I hope to get there again in the near future. It’s always a lot of fun and who doesn’t want to celebrate something as delicious as Maine lobster. I’m especially intrigued by the Great International Lobster Crate Race scheduled for this Sunday. Watching brave participants race across lobster crates, that are floating in the water, sounds fun. Last year’s winner ran over a total of 1,500 crates. I’m not sure I’d make it past five.
2. Maine Antique Festival. Union, Maine. August 4-6, 2017. If you enjoy hunting for hidden treasures this antique festival is the place to be. It’s the largest of its kind in Maine. There are endless rows of dealers each with their own unique wares. The festival opens for early birds on Friday from 12:00 – 5:00 pm. It’s can be good to get there early and have first pass at finding that something special. Although, the end of the festival is another strategy too. There might be some deals to be had as the vendors get ready to pack up again.
3. Northeast Harborfest.  Northeast Harbor Marina, Maine. August 5-6, 2017. This is one of two juried art shows run by Marc Fink in the Mt. Desert Island area during August. I am a craft fair junkie. I have an office overrun with craft supplies and I’m always looking for inspiration. I love wandering through booths seeing all the amazing products for sale by talented local artisans.
4. Northern Maine Fair. Presque Isle, Maine.  July 28, 2017 to August 5, 2017.  This week-long fair wraps up tomorrow. There website lists a wonderful Northern Maine Fair Code of Conduct that encourages courteous, respectful behavior. Every fair needs this type of code of conduct. Judging for the Maine Wild Blueberry Pie Contest starts tomorrow at 1:00 pm. That seems like an especially delicious place to be.

5. Bangor State Fair.  Bass Park, Bangor, Maine. July 28, 2017 to August 5, 2017. Strolling through a state fair is a time-honored summer tradition. In addition to traditional fair rides and food you can catch some unique animal shows including the Grizzly Experience or the Tiger Show. There’s also a demolition derby scheduled for tonight. Or, maybe you’d like to enter the whoopie pie eating competition? State fairs are always a family friendly outing.

This is just a quick list of a few of the festivals that are happening this weekend in Maine. There are many other events and activities going on all over the state. That’s the beauty of summer. There is always something interesting going on.

I myself am about to embark on my third gishwhes (greatest international scavenger hunt the world has ever seen) which kicks off on Saturday. If I go dark for a bit, no need to worry. This amazing week-long challenge tends to take all of my time. It’ was created by Misha Collins of the television show Supernatural and is a fundraiser for his charity Random Acts.  It is a creative and truly unique event that stretches you beyond what you think is possible. We’re not allowed to post about the hunt while it is going on, but I’ll try to post a recap once everything is done. And, if you see some odd social media or blogging from me during the week, I’m probably just working on a challenge item.
