While a popular summer destination, I found the quieter winter scene at Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth especially beautiful during a recent visit. The sun gleaming off the water, a persistent patch of snow by the edge of the sand and an abandoned lobster trap make it a true Maine winter scene.
This was my first visit to the beach area at Kettle Cove, but my daughter and I did enjoy a delicious lunch at the Kettle Cove Creamery & Cafe a few summers ago which I blogged about here: Serendipity and Strawberries lead us to a stop at the Kettle Cove Creamery & Cafe. Unfortunately, it’s closed during the winter so we didn’t get to enjoy a second visit on this trip.
There is a three mile walk that loops from Kettle Cove to Cresent Beach and back that I’m hoping to hike this summer especially since Crescent Beach is another area I haven’t explored yet. As I blogged about in one of my earlier A to Z posts, C is for a Coastal Hike at Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, coastal hikes are the best. They never disappoint.
The rocky coastline of Maine is one of the most interesting things about our beaches. There is so much to explore and it is all visually stunning.

I love how quiet the beach is in the winter. You may hear an occasional bird, but most of the time, it’s just the wind and the waves. Peaceful!

We have long wanted to visit the northeast and take in a lobster roll and visit the lighthouses. I have family out there so it would be extra special. Your pictures are beautiful!

Is that beach anywhere near THE lighthouse of Cape Elizabeth? If that’s the case then it’s one of my husband’s favorite places on Earth!
Living in Switzerland we don’t have beaches so we can’t visit in winter, but if I could I probably would, just because I like being close to a body of water. Also I like to avoid the summer crowds 😉

Yes, it’s very close to the lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth! As a matter of fact, we visited the lighthouse the same day we stopped by Kettle Cove.
Winter is much quieter and less crowded than the summer which can make for a great time to walk the beach.

Me from India, don’t mind winter or summer for a beach day out!! Hahaha… jokes apart, but ever since I moved to Italy, I make my visits to beach areas in late winter to avoid the other wise full crowds in the place.

I love the beach at any season! The only Maine beaches I’ve been to though are at Bar Harbour. I went there as a child to see an eclipse. We hope to get back there and do some hiking along the Appalachian Trail.
