Dinner & Drinks at LFK in Portland, Maine

I love a good deal and having scored a Localvore discount for LFK in Portland, we headed over on a recent Friday night for an early dinner.  We’d stopped in before during one of our Portland Beer Week Scavenger Hunts, but we’d never been there for food.

LFK is located on State Street by Longfellow Square. The restaurant is nice and bright with an eclectic style showcasing its literary theme. When we first arrived, we grabbed a small table by the side entrance, but after ordering some drinks we noticed that a few seats had opened up at the bar, so we migrated that way before ordering our meal. There’s just something more festive about sitting at the bar.

The menu is straight forward with appetizers, salads and sandwich options. We started off with some Asian wings. They were well made and my husband enjoyed them tremendously but they were just not to my taste. I like more traditional BBQ wings so it was my bad for not reading through the menu description.

It was okay though because we split a burger next and that was delicious! We opted out of the pretzel bun as my husband is not a fan of pretzels. He loves pretty much every food on the planet, but pretzels is one of the few things he won’t eat. Go figure. It didn’t impact the burger though. It was juicy, flavorful and definitely a great follow up choice to the wings.

I really enjoyed the decor of LFK. I have my own classic typewriter at home so it was fun to check out the ones adorning LFK. They are located in various areas throughout the bar. Sometimes I miss the fun of using typewriters, although certainly computers allow for far superior editing which makes for a better writing experience.

But still, I have a little nostalgia for typewriters. I made extra cash during my college years typing term papers for other students. I wasn’t using one of these old, manual typewriters though, it wasn’t quite that long ago! I no longer own my electric typewriter but probably should have hung onto it. Someday, it might be considered a classic like these.

Hanging out at LFK enjoying a low key dinner made for a relaxing night. They have great food and a fun atmosphere. LFK is located near Longfellow Square, so we walked around that area a bit before heading home. There were a lot of people out and about which made for a festive atmosphere.

LFK also serves brunch on Sundays so we’ll have to come back to check that menu out too. We always love a good brunch, and especially enjoy trying new spots. When we first moved back to Maine, there were limited options available but now things have exploded and there are so many amazing brunches throughout Portland. We’ll have to add LFK to that brunch list.
