Our travels along the Maine Beer Trail for 2017.

How did we do with my 2017 Bucket List item of visiting all the craft breweries on the Maine Beer Trail? I’d love to say we made it to them all, but since there are over 70 unique breweries in Maine, and new ones continue to open, I’m afraid the finish line eluded us, at least for now.

While we came up a little short, we did have a great time trying to get to as many craft breweries as we could this past year. For each stop, we usually tried to make a day of it. We’d search out an interesting hike, and look for other fun things in the area as we explored different parts of Maine.

A Visit to Urban Farm Fermentory for Kombucha and a Tasting Flight.

This past winter we spent a quiet Thursday afternoon enjoying the tasting room at Urban Farm Fermentory. While you can find selections from Urban Farm Fermentory throughout bars and restaurants in the Portland area, I had never tried  kombucha or any of their other offerings.

The tasting room at Urban Farm Fermentory is spacious and inviting. One of the benefits of going early on a weekday afternoon meant it was also uncrowded. Even though the place was mostly empty when we arrived, with plenty of open tables, we opted to sit up at the bar which has a creative, fun vibe.

Friday Favorites | Five craft beer activities to do in Maine this weekend.

My husband and I have been working our way through the Maine Beer Trail as part of my bucket list adventures for 2017. There are a lot of local craft breweries and the number continues to expand. It will probably take us longer than one year to get all the stamps on our beer trail map and that’s okay. The adventure is in working our way through the stops and getting to explore more of Maine.

Y is for Younity | Want to try a blueberry wine? You’ve come to the right state.

While we’re working our way through the Maine Beer Trail, one of my bucket list items for this year, we don’t have a lot of experience with Maine’s wine scene. I have been to Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville, and since they opened their tasting room at Thompson’s Point, I have gone to a few of their wine pairings. So far, that is the only winery I have been to in Maine. We do plan to tackle the Maine Wine Trail eventually, but as I said in my bucket list post, it’s probably best to attempt only one alcohol related “trail” a year.

In researching Maine wineries, I learned that there are:

(a) far more than I realized; and
(b) most of them make a version of blueberry wine.

We bought three bottles of local blueberry wines so that we could have a mini-wine tasting and compare flavors.  For our wine tasting, we opted to try the following wines (all descriptions are from the winery’s websites):

Craft beer rocks in Maine. This is definitely a great state live you if you enjoy beer. Actually, even if you don’t love beer, it’s still an awesome state!

Since today, April 7th, is National Beer Day, I figured I’d focus my post on (surprise) – beer! There are a lot of options for Made in Maine when it comes to craft beer. It also works out well as one of my bucket list items this year is to complete the Maine Beer Trail so I get to stamp another entry on my beer map too.
