Day in the Lifeâ„¢ Memory Keeping Project

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a scrapbook, or journal, from your grandmother that showed what her life was like for one typical, average day; maybe from when she was first married, after she just became a new mother, or some other snapshot from her past? There would be so many things, that at the time probably seemed insignificant or unimportant, that would be so fun to look back on now after the passage of time.

Another class that Ali Edwards offers on her site is a Day in the Lifeâ„¢ which encourages participants to document one day from the time they get up until they go to bed that night. Technically, it’s documenting the full 24 hours. You can learn more about Ali and her One Little Word® project that I do each year on my previous blog post One Little Word® Memory Keeping Project. She’s amazing, and I highly recommend following her blog.

5 Things I Learned Snowshoeing at Sebago Lake State Park

This past weekend was the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend with many wonderful events scheduled throughout the state. The event encourages people to get out and participate in outdoor activities. Winter can sometimes be a more challenging time to get outside but there really are many great options available in Maine.

I knew that we wanted to participate in the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend this year, so I looked through all the events listed on their website to pick one that seemed like a good fit. There were a large variety of options from which to choose. We decided on a snowshoeing hike with the Maine Outdoor Adventure Club as it seemed like a nice activity for the uninitiated. They were heading to Sebago Lake State Park in Casco for a two hour snowshoeing trek. Continue reading

One Little Word Scrapbook

One Little Word® Memory Keeping Project

I started scrapbooking a short time after my girls were born, but in reality, I’ve always been a memory keeper. My college picture albums included captions, detailed notes on who was in each picture, and other memorabilia. I’ve always loved pulling the story together. It’s one of the reasons that I’m interested in blogging. It’s another way of tracking memories and telling stories.

As life has gotten busier, it has been harder to find time to do paper scrapbooking. In an effort to incorporate more creativity into my life, I started participating in the One Little Word® project by Ali Edwards one of my absolute favorite Memory Keepers. I have been following Ali since I started with scrapbooking, and her book was one of the first ones I bought on the topic, A Designer’s Eye for Scrapbooking. Her style is visually beautiful and has just the right balance of clean lines and artistic touches.

Weekend Trip to Belfast Maine

Pedestrian Bridge BelfastEach summer we try to do at least one weekend get away to someplace in Maine that we don’t get to often. There are so many amazing places within the state. A few summers ago, we made it up to Belfast for a couple of nights. My husband had been wanting to go to Marshall Wharf Brewing in Belfast, and I hadn’t been up to the area since I was in college.

We headed up to Belfast for a weekend in early in August and, in an effort to keep the cost down, we stayed at the Yankee Clipper Motel which worked out really well although our girls were a little thrown by the setup as it was their first motel stay. It was clean and convenient. While it was not located in the main downtown Belfast area, it was a quick walk to the pedestrian bridge which goes across the Passagassawaukeag River and connects to downtown Belfast.  It wasn’t a perfect solution as you have to walk along Route 1 for a bit. Route 1 is a busy road with no sidewalks, but you just need to be careful. I would have been a little more nervous if my girls were younger. But, for us, it worked out great and was definitely better than driving.

Portland Beer Week Scavenger Hunt

Truth be told, I’m not a big fan of beer. I’m more of a wine girl myself, but my husband absolutely loves craft beer and is pretty excited about all the options available in Portland. There is no better time for beer lovers than during the annual Portland Beer Week festivities held in Portland, Maine every fall.

We’ve put a team together, for the last three years, to compete in the Port City Running Tours (PCRT) Beer Week Scavenger Hunt which is one of the Portland Beer Week events. My husband loves beer, I love scavenger hunts, and we both love Portland, so it’s the perfect activity for us. Each year, PCRT has done a great job with mixing things up, and making it slightly different than the year before, but the basic format is:
