Standup Comedy with Chris Hardwick and his ID10T Tour at State Theatre

I am a proud geek. I love all things nerdy. My husband commented once to friends that I was easy to buy for on Valentine’s Day. He just had to shop like he was buying for a teenage boy. He’s not wrong. I love my minimates, Funko Pops and Doctor Who memorabilia.

And, when you’re a nerd there’s no one you love more than the voice of all things geek, Chris Hardwick. He has risen to the top of the nerd pyramid from his role as founder of the Nerdist to hosting the Talking Dead . He understands the world that he lives in and speaks to it well. He definitely speaks to me. I think my husband even gave me his book, “The Nerdist Way: How to Reach the Next Level (In Real Life)” for my birthday one year. Let’s just say, I’m a fan.

Friday Night Happy Hour Stops at Crooners & Cocktails and Sonny’s

This past Friday was a bit of a ping-pong day for us with some bouncing back and forth to and from Portland. We took advantage of the situation and on our last trip into the city decided to grab a lite bite at one of the many happy hour destinations.

Happy Hour is like hitting the early bird special but getting to enjoy a beer with your meal. How awesome is that? And, all at a nice little discount.

Our first stop was Crooners & Cocktails. This is a beautifully executed theme restaurant with a throw back feel to the days of Frank Sinatra and The Rat Pack. The black and white decor lends a cocktail party flair to the atmosphere. I think I would have been comfortable in that era. I have spent many weekends watching movies set during the time period so, naturally, I enjoy the look and feel of this destination.

#atozchallenge | Y is for Yelp and Best Happy Hour Destinations in Portland, Maine

On a recent outing into Portland, and in an attempt to finish prepping my a-z blog challenge posts, we let Yelp be out guide for the night. It’s important to point out a few things before diving into this post:

  • You can get extremely different Yelp results just by making slight modifications to your search criteria. “Happy Hour Cheap” and “Happy Hour Fun”, not surprisingly, don’t give you the same results. This was helpful to us, as we could manipulate our searches to make sure we liked the results we were seeing. We had to maintain some control over the night.

3 Reasons Why We’ll be Back to Timber Steakhouse & Rotisserie

Sometimes a night out doesn’t go as planned, but can still be wonderful fun. We headed into Portland on a recent Friday evening intending to go to the Little Tap House but an event at the Cross Insurance Arena made parking in the area unmanageable so instead we ventured to the Old Port to see what we could find. This time we had parking success and, after a brief stop into Sonny’s, where we were unable to find seating at the bar, we wandered over to Timber Steakhouse & Rotisserie.

We were looking for something more casual but decided to have one drink at the bar to check things out. My husband ordered an Allagash Curieux at our bartender’s recommendation, and I went with the Terlano Pinot Grigio which was excellent. We split an order of the hand cut fries with Jalapeño ketchup and truffle parmesan aoili. I’m pretty much a Heinz ketchup girl and was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Jalapeño ketchup. It added just the right touch of extra flavor.
