Top 10 List | Maine Memories from 2017

Looking back on 2017, my second year of blogging, I continue to be excited with the direction of my blog, and motivated to expand and grow my content. There is a never-ending selection of adventures available in Maine. But, before I jump into 2018, here are ten of my favorite activities from this past year, and links to the blog posts I wrote about them.

(1) Getting to Know Me | 30 Odd Questions #Blogfest . I was a blog hop newbie, but this year I participated in one hosted by Emily’s World and The Doglady’s Den. I met Debbie from The Doglady’s Den during the annual A to Z Challenge. I enjoyed learning more about other bloggers during this blog hop as well as sharing a little bit  about myself too.

Q is for (Mainely) Quilling | I am in awe of these amazing paper creations.

While my blog and digital photo books have taken over my hobby time recently, my heart is more in the realm of paper crafting even if it’s been almost a year since I tackled a project. The days are just too short to do everything I want to do, so sometimes things get put aside for a while. I know that eventually I will circle back to my paper crafts and put my obsessively over stocked craft room to good use again.

I have always been drawn to other crafters who excel in the field and have an entire bookcase dedicated to books written by fellow memory keepers sharing their tips and tricks. So, when I realized that there was a quilling artist located in Maine, I knew I had my letter Q locked up. I too have tried my hand at quilling, but on a much more simplistic and less successful level.

M is for Might & Main | A design firm that understands my passion for Maine.

When I was younger and developing my decorating style, I loved the classics and was especially drawn to English country design. My first house was a Colonial style and while it had a few colonial touches, like framed antique prints of Martha and George Washington, I never fully executed the look probably because I had two young children, zero money and even less time.

About five years ago, we went through an extensive home renovation on our home in Maine. It was a major undertaking where we took our house down to the foundation and started from scratch. Because we live on a lake, and there are a multitude of rules and environmental regulations that need to be followed, we hired an architect to design our new home and help navigate the process. He was wonderful to work with and helped guide us through the chaotic experience with ease.

E is for Eagre Games | Get ready to experience the dreamworld of ZED.

Shortly after pong was released by Atari in the 70s, my cousins received the game as a Christmas present. In those years, we would video tape portions of our holiday celebrations to send my grandparents who were down in Florida. The recorder was accidentally left on that year and we ended up with 7 hours of video taped carpet with the soundtrack of pong playing nonstop in the background. My brother and cousins had stayed up all night playing the game.

While I never developed the video game bug the way that they did, my daughter, who is in art school studying communication design, has a strong passion for it. Her dream is to get into video game design and world building. Why not? It’s an explosive industry with so much creative opportunity, but she will most likely need to work away from Maine to make this dream a reality. There aren’t a lot of video game designers in Maine. But, I did find one!
